We happened to read an article on PET bottles
by Cameron Smith, in the Toronto Star, and
believe it contains information that could
be important to your health.
Judge for yourself, and act accordingly.
Prof. William Shotyk is a director of the
Institute of Environmental Geochemistry at
Heidelberg University in Germany. He has
just published a research paper that
established that the most common plastic
bottles (PET) used for bottled water
leaches antimony into the water over time.
Apparently, antimony, a cumulative poison,
is a lot like lead, with similar toxicity.
Samples from 15 brands sold in Canada,
and 48 brands sold in Europe were tested.
In PET bottles, he found upto 375 parts
per trillion (ppt). More important, the
level rose to 625 ppt after an additional
3 months which suggests continuing leaching
into the water.

You might find comfort in learning that
the Canadian and US governments set a
limit of 6 parts per billion for drinking water.
Then again, you might not relish the idea of
ingesting any antimony at all!
