Are your eyes rusting?

Posted by youngaga On July - 31 - 2007Comments Off

Hello!

Whether related specifically to the eyes, or to all the body

systems, the puzzle of aging has undergone a partial deconstruct!

Most scientists believe that aging can be traced to cellular

damage caused primarily by the Free Radicals (unstable

oxygen molecules circulating in our blood).

Free radicals oxidize tissue much as rust attacks metal,

although other factors such as sun, alcohol or psychological

stress contribute to exacerbate the condition.

Your entire body, including your eyes, are rusting each day.

Exercising your eyes will work wonders in rebuilding your eyesight as you age.

With every breath you take, Free Radicals are produced in

your body. They attack surrounding proteins, fats and genes.

During your youthful years your body’s natural antioxidants

swiftly repair most of the damage.

But, once the reproductive years are over, nature lowers

your body’s defenses… its most important job, from

nature’s perspective, is done. Your body systems, thereafter,

function less efficiently to counter the attacks by the

free-radicals, and damage accumulates rapidly.

In other words, aging is the result of oxidative stress, a

process in which the body literally rusts over time.

Medical science has proved that free radicals are involved

in more than 81 diseases, including heart and cardiovascular

disease, cancer, arthritis and the diseases we associate

with aging (like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other neuro-

degenerative disorders).

So what can you do? Take preventative measures using your

knowledge of the newest treatments and products available.

Antioxidants are the elements that fight the free radicals

that age our bodies and lower our defences.  Everyone who has

any interest in health will advise that all the vitamins,

minerals, elements that our bodies need should be ingested

through a correct selection of foods!

However, this does not always happen, although it is the

preferred way. Especially as an aging body has a much slower

blood circulation system.

If your food does not give you the dosage required, you

should think seriously about using supplements to fill

deficiencies, which could lead to complex malfunctions of

the body systems.

Magical Curry

Posted by youngaga On July - 28 - 2007Comments Off

Hello there!

You may, or may not, know that Roshmi and I are of Indian descent. Accordingly, we enjoy spicy food which includes curries.

We are aware that curries are a universal favourite dish worldwide, and so we would like to pass on the possibly little known benefits of eating curries occasionally.

This information is gleaned from an article in a newsletter we subscribe to called Health & Wellness.

Here is the interesting part:

A study has discovered that a substance found in turmeric root (bisdemethoxycurcumin) could hold a key to tackling Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists have discovered the extract may be capable of boosting the immune system to help combat the plaques which form in the brain, leading to the death of brain cells and dementia.

The researchers, from the University of California, Los Angeles, used blood samples from Alzheimer’s patients.

When they added the curry substance, it boosted immune cells called macrophages. These helped clear compounds known as amyloid beta, which create the plaques which build up in the brains of Alzheimer’s sufferers.

Previous research has suggested that rates of Alzheimer’s are much lower among the elderly in India than they are in western countries.

In the Western world, dementia affects one in 20 people over the age of 65 and one in five over the age of 80.

Curries are of various types, some very rich. The more vegetable-based curries with tomato-based sauces may be a better option for those wanting to eat them on a regular basis.

Curry has all the ingredients for a healthy diet.

Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric that makes curries yellow, has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties. Used to treat arthritic pain in Indian households for centuries, a study in mice also suggested that it could slow the growth of cancer.

Another favorite ingredient is ginger, which can be helpful in combating nausea in expectant mothers and novice sailors, while garlic — a curry staple — has been hailed as being good for the heart, as well as acting as an effective antibiotic and mosquito repellent. Organic varieties, which generally have higher sulphur levels, are most effective.

Adding plenty of fresh chilis to a curry can help to clear a blocked nose. They have also been reported to help stabilise insulin levels, which keeps blood-sugar levels regular and controls the appetite.

Coriander, a herb used in curry dishes, helps to fight bacterial and fungal infections. It can also reduce bloating and stomach problems.

The mangos in chutney, meanwhile, are rich in antioxidants and help to attain a flawless complexion.

So enjoy your curry, knowing that it is doing your body and brain a lot of good.

One word of warning though – it can stain your teeth unless you are careful to brush after each meal. This, of course, applies to many other foods (and red wine).

The natural product that Roshmi & I recommend for sparkling teeth and healthy gums is described at

http://www.youngagainforever.com/tooth-soap.htm

Once you go to the order page, be sure to click on “Special Offer”. There is a new flavour with organic honey at a special introductory price.

One bottle is usually good for three months, so it is economical, especially when you consider the saved dental bills.

To your good health,

Natural ways to lower cholesterol

Posted by youngaga On July - 26 - 2007Comments Off

Welcome back to our Blog.

This is part 2 of important excerpts from an article by SixWise, an excellent health newsletter that we subscribe to.

Leading a healthy lifestyle with plenty of whole foods and exercise is a proven way to lower your cholesterol and ward off heart disease.

Statin drugs are  known to block the production of important nutrients in the body, including CoQ10. CoQ10 is beneficial to heart health and muscle function.

Other potential risks detailed by The Weston A. Price Foundation include an increased risk of polyneuropathy (nerve damage that causes pain in the hands and feet and trouble walking) and, ironically, heart failure due to CoQ10 depletion. Dizziness, cognitive impairment, a potential increased risk of cancer, decreased function of the immune system and depression are other serious risks.

Statins have also recently been linked to a potential increased risk of Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Other cholesterol-lowering drugs also have side effects, most notably muscle pain and weakness.

HOW TO LOWER CHOLESTEROL NATURALLY

Much of the controversy surrounding cholesterol-lowering drugs has to do with the fact that cholesterol can often be lowered — and heart disease prevented — by making lifestyle changes.

THE KEYS TO LOWERING CHOLESTEROL NATURALLY INCLUDE:

Eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables

Exercising regularly

Not smoking

Managing stress in your life

The Mayo Clinic maintains that making the above lifestyle changes can reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke better than taking medication alone.

ARE CERTAIN STATINS SAFER THAN OTHERS?

What should you do if you’ve made positive changes in your lifestyle, yet your cholesterol is still high?

One controversial option is to not worry about it. A small but growing group says that high cholesterol is not, in fact, the cause of heart disease. Proponents of this controversial view point out that cholesterol is a crucial part of the human body, necessary for proper neurological function, hormone production, and repair, along with helping to digest fats and acting as a powerful antioxidant.

If your cholesterol is low, they posit, you can have adrenal problems, blood sugar problems, mineral deficiencies, chronic inflammation, reproductive troubles, allergies, asthma and difficulty healing, among other issues.

Getting your cholesterol to adhere to the national recommended levels, they maintain, is not necessary to be healthy.

Alternatively, you could consider taking a statin, keeping in mind that you could be taking them for the rest of your life. While all of the varieties carry risks, Lipitor and Crestor may be among the most risky options because they are typically given at higher dosages.

STATINS AND OTHER CHOLESTEROL-LOWERING DRUGS

Posted by youngaga On July - 25 - 2007Comments Off

Welcome!

These are important excerpts from an article by SixWise, an excellent  newsletter that we subscribe to.

Heart health is a major issue for millions of people, and appears to be on the rise, because of bad diet and lack of exercise, among other things.

Millions of Americans take statin drugs, the so-called “wonder” drugs that lower bad cholesterol, thereby protecting against heart disease.

Statins, now the second-most prescribed drugs in the United States (antidepressants are the most prescribed), work by interfering with an enzyme that your body needs to make cholesterol. Along with lowering cholesterol, the drugs — which include Lipitor, Zocor, Mevacor, Pravachol, Crestor and others — may also help your body reabsorb cholesterol that has accumulated on your artery walls, helping to prevent further blockage.

Now the standard treatment for people at risk of heart disease or with high cholesterol, statins have become a household word.

“This is turning people into patients,” says Dr. Peter Brindle, a researcher in cardiovascular disease at Bristol University. “They are going to be offered this preventative drug for the rest of their life with all the risks and side effects. There has to be a public debate about whether society feels this should be done.”

Statin drugs, of course, are not without risk, and questions are being raised as to whether the benefits of lower cholesterol outweigh the drugs’ potential side effects — particularly when diet and lifestyle changes can often do the trick as well.

THE RISKS OF STATIN DRUGS

Statin drugs can cause an increase in liver enzymes, leading to permanent liver damage. Because of this, people taking the drugs must have their liver function tested periodically. Statins are also known to cause muscles pain, joint aches and tenderness — the most commonly reported complaints — including the serious rhabdomyolysis (muscle wasting), in which body tissues begin to break down, resulting in kidney damage and failure. Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, headaches and skin rash are other known side effects.

Our next broadcast will be a continuation of the topic of heart health.

The Dangers of Gum - Disease Part 2

Posted by youngaga On July - 23 - 2007Comments Off

Hello again.

We hope you enjoyed the first part on gum disease posted on our blog.

And we hope you are aware of the information on

http://www.youngagainforever.com/tooth-soap.htm

We think part 2 will provide you with important information too.

SIGNS OF GUM DISEASE

Healthy gums are firm and pink. You know trouble is brewing when they grow red, tender, swollen and are prone to bleed when you brush. Even bad breath can be an early symptom. This can be early-stage gum disease, or gingivitis, and you should bring these symptoms to the attention of your dentist.

Though your personal health history (including heredity) may also be a factor, gum disease often develops due to poor oral hygiene, when a lack of brushing and flossing causes a sticky layer of bacteria or plaque to coat the teeth, and inflammation to develop along the gum lines. Certain medications, such as Dilantin for epilepsy, as well as smoking and chewing tobacco, definitely exacerbate gum disease. Left uncared for, the plaque hardens to become tartar or calculus, building up over time. If the plaque and calculus further irritate the gums and lead to nasty pockets of infection, you have a serious problem — periodontal disease, characterized by infection and inflammation that now is destroying bone and supporting tissue.

BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS

The good news is that early periodontal disease can be treated and usually reversed. Once the infection has been cleared up you can prevent any further gum disease with diligent home care and regular dental check-ups.

Daily Health News contributing editor Andrew L. Rubman, ND, says gum hygiene should include antiseptic oral rinses such as Listerine, which is formulated to target oral bacteria. This can help prevent the plaque from further damaging the gums and leading to those pockets of infection. In many cases it is actually chronic oral yeast infection that predisposes the gum tissue to become secondarily colonized by bacteria which can produce both plaque deposits and dissolve enamel, says Dr. Rubman. He adds that Listerine and other oral rinses also effectively treat yeast and other micro-organisms.

To find out if you’re facing potential problems, ask your dentist whether you have any periodontal pockets and how deep they are, advises Dr. Winter. One to three millimeters is considered normal. Once pockets reach a depth of four millimeters, you have a problem that must be attended to. Other factors your dentist may take into consideration are bleeding, loose teeth and bone loss. People with implants must be very diligent about their oral hygiene as poor oral hygiene is a leading cause of failed implants.

In Dr. Winter’s opinion, in addition to twice-yearly visits to your regular dentist, your best bet is to see a periodontist for periodic exams. If you have no signs of periodontal problems, good for you — but make sure to have another check-up in five to 10 years. The severity of the disease determines the course of treatment, which may range from a thorough cleaning all the way to gum surgery. In Dr. McGuire’s view, a dentist and hygienist can take care of most gum disease, although he refers patients with advanced gum disease to a periodontist (especially when surgery is required). “I also recommend a check up at least once per year to look for symptoms of other diseases that can show up in the mouth, particularly oral cancer,” says Dr. McGuire.

PREVENTION IS IDEAL

Regardless of whether you already have gum disease or are just doing your best to prevent it, good oral hygiene is a must. For healthy teeth and gums, Dr. McGuire recommends…

a. Brush. Use a soft-bristle brush to clean teeth and gums in the morning, after eating, and before you go to bed. Replace the brush every three to four months, and soak it in an antibacterial rinse like Listerine overnight after you’ve been sick with a cold or flu.

b. Floss. Do this at least once a day, and always brush first.

c. Use mouthwash. When you have gum disease, you should use an antimicrobial mouthwash, such as Listerine, after every brushing and flossing session. Once the infection has been eliminated, you can switch to a more natural product. You can also use a warm salt water rinse.

d. Consider a water irrigator. These are especially effective at reaching between teeth to remove food. For people with severe disease, this is a must, along with brushing and flossing.

e. Stay away from sugar, refined and processed foods as much as possible.

f. See your dentist for an exam and cleaning every six months.

g. Avoid smoking. It irritates gum tissue, stresses the immune system and lowers the body’s resistance to infection of any kind.

You can significantly combat gum disease if you use the product we divulge at

Thousands are benefitting from it already.

We hope that you are too.

The Dangers of Gum - Disease Part 1

Posted by youngaga On July - 22 - 2007Comments Off

Hello there!

There is an often neglected part of your body – your mouth.

Did you know: “the gums are the window to your health”. Research is growing that shows that symptoms of periodontal disease such as inflamed or bleeding gums — and sometimes even loose teeth — raise the risk of serious health problems elsewhere in the body, including heart disease, stroke, and diabetes among other ailments.

The information below came from dental experts Alan A. Winter, DDS, a periodontist in private practice and associate clinical professor of implant dentistry at the New York University College of Dentistry in New York City, and Tom McGuire, DDS, a holistic dentist based in Sebastopol, California, and author of Tooth Fitness: Your Guide to Healthy Teeth (St. Michael’s Press).

CONSEQUENCE OF INFLAMED GUMS

These experts were asked our how periodontal disease leads to disease elsewhere in the body. As with many systemic problems, an inflammatory response is the underlying cause, explains Dr. Winter. In people with serious gum disease, bacteria and their irritating toxins enter into the bloodstream eliciting a systemic inflammatory response. The condition will do even more damage once the tissue that supports the tooth breaks down and the infection begins to destroy the bone. It is much less dangerous with minor gum infection or inflammation.

Many health problems, including heart disease, are related to advanced gum disease. Inflammation triggers the liver to make C-reactive protein (CRP), which is considered a “marker” of inflammatory activity. According to Dr. McGuire, elevated CRP levels are associated with an increased risk of more serious health problems such as heart attack and stroke. Periodontal disease is also associated with an increased risk for diabetes, low birth weight and pre-term births and respiratory ailments. New evidence also links pancreatic cancer with periodontal disease. In addition, when your body has to work extra hard to fight infection and inflammation, it constantly puts significant and undue stress on your immune system , and this constant stress can dramatically lower your resistance to other diseases.

DON’T IGNORE YOUR GUMS

With gum disease, it’s not unusual for people to allow the infection and inflammation to go on for weeks, months or years, notes Dr. McGuire. He’s surprised that people are willing to tolerate this state of affairs in their mouth, when they would aggressively fight an equivalent infection that was eroding the soft tissue, bones and ligaments in an arm or leg. According to Dr. McGuire, a big part of this is fear. Approximately 30% of the population has fear or anxiety significant enough that they avoid going to the dentist until symptoms have progressed very far and caused disease. Cost too is an impediment, thanks to the lack of dental insurance for many people… and cost and fear can overlap. The third major factor, he says, is that far too many people aren’t aware of the serious effect on their health from gum disease.

Signs of periodontal disease are frequently ignored. This puts not just your teeth but also your overall health at risk… the body functions as an integrated system, and infection in one place leads to problems in another — and there is perhaps no more direct route than through the mouth.

How does treating periodontal disease help to prevent disease elsewhere in the body? According to Dr. Winter, if you extrapolate current findings, here is what may be gained by improved oral care…

a.. Fewer heart attacks.

b.. Fewer strokes.

c.. Better control of type I and type II diabetes.

d.. Less respiratory disease.

e.. Lower risk of pancreatic cancer.

f.. Reduced rate of premature births.

g.. Reduced rate of underweight newborns.

Prevention and treatment not only improve quality of life and life expectancy, they also save time and money, observes Dr. McGuire. One study, “The Effect of Periodontal Disease on Health Care Costs,” showed that health care costs for people with moderate to severe gum disease were 21% higher than for those with no gum disease.

Brown Vs White Rice

Posted by youngaga On July - 19 - 2007Comments Off

Welcome to our Blog!

Here is some information  from Dr Kim’s Newsletter:

We faithfully read Dr Kim’s newsletters because of its excellent content.

Some important points and guidelines on eating white and brown rice:

1. Since white rice is brown rice that has been stripped of some of its nutrients, brown rice is superior in its nutritional content. Specifically, brown rice is an excellent source of niacin (vitamin B3) and magnesium, a good source of thiamin (vitamin B1) and iron and a moderate source of protein, fiber and zinc.

2. White rice has less fiber and vitamins than brown rice, but is an excellent source of niacin and a moderate source of protein, thiamin and iron.

3. If you can eat brown rice without experiencing any abdominal discomfort, bloating, or gas, then it is a better choice for you than white rice because of its greater nutritional density.

4. If you experience abdominal discomfort or bloating after eating brown rice, it is worth your while to try eating white rice. Because of its lower fiber content, white rice is less abrasive to your intestinal lining than brown rice, a helpful feature if you have weak or damaged intestines. Many people who have colitis and/or problems with diarrhea find that they can digest white rice without any discomfort, while brown rice causes pain and gas production.

5. If you choose to eat white rice, be sure to eat it with plenty of cooked vegetables to prevent constipation. Fiber from well cooked vegetables does not typically cause irritation to a weakened or damaged intestinal lining.

6. If you are a diabetic or are at risk of being a diabetic, it is best to stay away from white rice completely because of the stress it puts on your blood sugar-regulating mechanisms.

Selenium reduces cancer risk

Posted by youngaga On July - 18 - 2007Comments Off

Welcome back!

We got some interesting news about cancer from Dan Robey

We hope it will help you or  someone in your family.

Make it a habit to take 200 Mcg of Selenium every day and you can

help to reduce your risks for getting certain cancers. Selenium is an

essential  trace mineral; it is also a powerful antioxidant.

Selenium helps to protect cells against the effects of free radicals.

Numerous studies have shown that selenium can help reduce the risk of cancer:

* A study in Finland showed that men who had low levels of selenium in

their bodies were more then three times more likely to develop

lung cancer then men who had high levels.

* Research in the United States has shown that the states

that had the lowest levels of the mineral selenium in their soil

had the highest levels of cancer.

* A study that was published in the Journal of the American

Medical Association showed that selenium supplementation led to

a 50% reduction in cancer mortality including breast and

lung cancers.

A Powerful Mental Exercise

Posted by youngaga On July - 17 - 2007Comments Off

Hello !

This is an excerpt from an email we received from Keith Matthew, which you could try.

“A  powerful exercise you can do to ATTRACT success to you faster.  Before you go to sleep tonight, grab a pen and pad and write down the area of your life you’d like to strengthen or have more insight into.

Then go to sleep - knowing that your subconscious is going to be sorting things out for you while you rest (the true you never really sleeps - you just rest).

When you get up in the morning, take 2 minutes to just lay in bed and look to recall any insights or messages you may have received. This is your inner wisdom matching up with your outer consciousness.”

Improve Your Memory by Moving Your Eyes

Posted by youngaga On July - 16 - 2007Comments Off

Welcome to our Blog!

We read this fascinating piece of information in Dr Mercola’s newsletter, and thought it would help you.

Did you know that moving your eyes horizontally, from side-to-side, for about 30 seconds may be all it takes to give your memory a boost, according to researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University in England.

After hearing a list of words, the study found that those who moved their eyes side-to-side for 30 seconds correctly remembered more than 10 percent more words, and falsely recognized about 15 percent fewer “lure” words, compared to those who moved their eyes up and down or did nothing.

Why would moving your eyes influence your memory?

The researchers suspect it’s because the horizontal eye movements cause the two hemispheres of the brain to interact more, and communication between the left and right brain hemispheres is known to help us remember certain things.

The researchers aren’t sure whether the eye movements will help people in their daily lives … but it’s certainly worth a try the next time you’ve misplaced your keys or forgotten your grocery list at home!

Relevant Comments:

Maybe not so surprising.  With eye movements , up is visual, horizontal is audio and down is tactile (kinesthetic). Eyes  left is accessing audio-recall.

Indian classical dancers rarely have eye problems and there is a very good reason why!

Indian classical dancing tells stories through graceful stylized movements

and poses. Thoughts and nuances are expressed by way of hundreds of

hand gestures, each of which has a different meaning.

Exaggerated eye movements, facial expressions and head movements

all play an important part in the process of communication. The rigorous

training of an aspiring Indian classical dancer involves control of the

muscles of the shoulder, neck, lips, eye balls, eye brows and eye-lids.

Take a cue from these dancers, and start regular eye exercises to

protect your eye sight.

Simply Powerful Non-Physical Exercise

Hello!

We subscribe to various self-improvement courses to get useful material to provide to our natural health subscribers.

We got an email from Mike Litman which contained a very simple, yet very powerful, formula to almost instantly improve yourself, your life and, probably, your finances.

Please make full use of this procedure.

This characteristic is what separates successful people from

unsuccessful people.

Successful people have formed the habit of doing

the things they don’t like doing.

Successful people focus on  pleasing rewards.

Failures focus on pleasing methods.

Successful people focus on the results.

Failures focus on the process.

Ask yourself:

What is one thing I don’t want to do

today, but if I did it, would move my

life and/or business forward?

Write it down.

Then ask:

How will I benefit from doing it?

Focus on this BENEFIT and you’ll WANT to take

the action you don’t feel like doing.

Are you murmuring “ How interesting”  and moving on to other things?

Or have you realized the power of this process and are immediately identifying the one thing that would benefit you greatly if only you would make the decision to actually do it?

Thanks, Mike Litman.

The Mystery of Yawning

Posted by youngaga On July - 13 - 2007Comments Off

Hello there!

We have all wondered at some time why we yawn. And we guarantee this article won’t put you to sleep!

Over the years, there have been many theories for why people yawn. It has been associated with sleepiness and boredom, and, incorrectly, with low oxygen levels in the blood.

“No one knows why we yawn,” says Andrew Gallup, a psychology professor at the State University of New York at Albany. Now Gallup and fellow researchers have a new explanation: Yawning, they said, is a way for the body to cool the brain.

Writing in the May issue of Evolutionary Psychology, they reported that volunteers yawned more often in situations in which their brains were likely to be warmer.

To prove their theory that yawning regulates brain temperature when other systems in the body are not doing enough, the researchers took advantage of the well-established tendency of people to yawn when those around them do — the so-called contagious yawn.

The volunteers were asked to step into a room by themselves and watch a video showing people behaving neutrally, laughing or yawning.

Observers watching through a one-way mirror counted how many times the volunteers yawned.

Some volunteers were asked to breathe only through their noses as they watched. Later, volunteers were asked to press warm or cold packs on their foreheads.

“The two conditions thought to promote brain cooling (nasal breathing and forehead cooling) practically eliminated contagious yawning,” the researchers wrote.

The study may also help explain why yawning spreads from person to person.

A cooler brain, Gallup said, is a clearer brain.

So yawning actually appears to be a way to stay more alert. And contagious yawning, he said, may have evolved to help groups remain vigilant against danger.

So now you know!

The Importance of Vitamin D

Posted by youngaga On July - 12 - 2007Comments Off

Excerpts from :
National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements; Daily Herald interviews

Studies point to a protective effect by vitamin D against cancers of the colon, prostate, ovaries, pancreas and kidney, as well as heart disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, arthritis and other illnesses.

Many of us aren’t getting enough. Vitamin D researchers say the current recommendations for 200 to 600 international units a day are too low to protect against cancer and other diseases.

“We just don’t get as much sun as we used to get, and we’re not getting it in our diets,” said Massey, who is medical director for alternative and complementary medicine at Alexian and a Daily Herald columnist.

The body synthesizes vitamin D from exposure to ultraviolet rays. Northerners get less sunlight, particularly in the winter, and studies have found we usually have less vitamin D in our blood.

We’ve also become more cautious about the dangers of melanoma and other skin cancers from sun exposure. So sunbathing is out. Wider use of sunscreens has further limited UV absorption by our skin.

Vitamin D is present in fish and fortified dairy products, but otherwise is scarce in our diet. One cup of fortified milk has 98 international units of vitamin D, a quarter of the recommended intake for adults over age 51.

So how much do we need? And what’s the best way to get it?

Federal guidelines recommend 200 to 600 units of vitamin D a day, depending on age. But most studies have found that higher doses are needed to protect against cancer and other illnesses.

Dr. Richard Hellman, an endocrinologist in Kansas City, Mo., and president of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, recommends 1,000 to 2,000 units a day. Half of his diabetes patients are deficient, he said.

Researchers are learning that vitamin D strengthens the immune system and helps regulate cell growth, a basic biologic process that goes haywire in cancer.

Where to Find Vitamin D

1. In food:

* Cod liver oil: 1 tablespoon, 1,360 units

* Salmon, cooked: 3.5 ounces, 360 units

* Tuna fish, canned in oil: 3 ounces, 200 units

* Milk, vitamin-D fortified: 1 cup, 98 units

* Cereals, fortified: 1 cup, 40 units

* Egg: 1 whole, 20 units

* Cheese, Swiss: 1 ounce, 12 units

2. In sunlight: The skin synthesizes vitamin D from ultraviolet rays. How much depends on geographical location and the intensity of the rays, as well as your skin type. Doctors urge caution; too much sun exposure increases your risk of skin cancer.

3. In supplements: Look for vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol. Vitamin D2, or ergocalciferol, is less effective in preventing cancer.

We hope you find this information both interesting and beneficial.

To your good health,

Garlic - A Natural Remedy for General Health

Posted by youngaga On July - 11 - 2007Comments Off

Welcome back!

I read this article in Chet Day’s newsletter and thought it would be useful for you.

Do NOT try these home remedies without consulting a health professional to make sure they are appropriate for you.

“Garlic is an excellent herb for creating and maintaing overall health, but it also has some specific health uses very few people know about.

Available in pills, capsules, tinctures, and of course raw forms, garlic is one of the most popular healthy herbs of today.

It’s also a natural and extremely potent antibiotic.

The most important part of garlic is called allicin. This is a natural antibiotic that’s effective against toxic bacteria, viruses, and fungus.

Allicin is quite powerful as an antibiotic. In fact, it’s said that 1 milligram of Allicin has a potency of 15 standard units of Penicillin.

The more popular version of garlic unfortunately tends to be the “odorless” pills and capsules found in health food stores. Allicin - the most important part of the garlic - is what causes the odor, though, so buying odorless garlic is ultimately a waste of money. It doesn’t have much of an effect at all as an antibiotic or general health promotion if it doesn’t have its trademark smell.

Garlic also has germanium in it — this is an anti-cancer agent and garlic has more of it than any other herb. In some lab tests, garlic was fed to a group of mice. Those that received the garlic showed no cancer development, but those who weren’t fed garlic showed at least some.

Garlic is a great herb for many other things too. It helps regulate the body’s blood pressure; so whether you have problems with low or high blood pressure, garlic may help equalize it.

Garlic also helps strengthen your body’s defenses against allergies; helps loosen plaque from the artery walls; helps regulate your blood sugar levels; and is the best choice for killing and expelling parasites such as pin worms from the human body.

In addition to having all these health benefits, garlic, like most herbs, is packed with vitamins and nutrients. Some of these include protein, potassium, Vitamins A, B, B2 and C, calcium, zinc and many others.

Garlic is very cheap to buy at grocery stores, and in its raw form it’s also the best for your body.

Below are two natural home remedies that involve garlic:

1. For sore throats: Put a small slice of garlic in your mouth and suck on it for 10-15 minutes. You can put it between your teeth and cheek, then scratch it with your teeth a little to help stimulate juice from the garlic slice. This juice slides down your throat and may help with the pain.

2. For ear infections: Wrap a small piece of garlic in tissue, then insert into the ear. Leave there overnight if possible. This may relieve the pain and even reduce the duration of the ear infection. “

Roshmi and I are great believers in the healthful properties of garlic, and recommend that you eat a raw clove daily.

Non Invasive Surgery

Posted by youngaga On July - 11 - 2007Comments Off

We were fascinated to read about certain surgical procedures that are now being conducted on a regular basis. The procedure makes the most of the body’s natural orifices to gain access to organs that need to be attended to by the surgeons scalpel, so making the surgery less invasive. There are no cuts on the body surface. The lung area can be accessed through the nasal passages, while the abdominal area can be entered through the rectum, vagina or urinary tract.

The first ‘natural orifice sugery’ was conducted in India, where surgeons in Bangalore were able to successfully remove a patient’s appendix through the mouth

Cataracts, too, can be treated in a non-invasive manner through application of special eye drops.

A Simple Recipe to Fight Cancer Naturally

Posted by youngaga On July - 10 - 2007Comments Off

Dr Johanna Budwig, a research scientist and six time Nobel Award nominee, discovered something that would save a lot of lives.

She discovered a natural formula that not only protects against the development of cancer but also fights existing cancer.

People the world over, diagnosed with incurable cancer, have used this formula to regain their health.

After thirty years of research, Dr Budwig observed that the blood of seriously ill cancer patients was deficient in certain nutrients, which allowed cancer cells to grow out of control.

By eating this combination of easily available foods, symptoms of cancer, liver dysfunction and diabetes were alleviated.

The drug companies, who stood to lose a lot of money because these were natural foods and not drugs, blocked Dr Budwig from publishing her findings.

Here is the formula, simple yet magical.

One tablespoon of cold processed unrefined virgin flaxseed oil mixed with one half cup of low fat cottage cheese. Every day.

You can double the dosage to two tablespoons of flaxseed oil mixed with one cup of low fat cottage cheese.

You can eat this formula whether you have cancer or not, as it provides excellent benefits.

We take great pleasure in bringing you this extremely important information – please share it with family and friends.

Thank you, Dr Johanna Budwig.

To your good health,

Don’t Peel your Apple

Posted by youngaga On July - 7 - 2007Comments Off

What is the Healthiest Part of an Apple?

Traditionally, apple peels have been considered healthy because of their fiber content, as the peel contains about 75 percent of the dietary fiber in an apple.

But a recent study has shown that the peel also contains most of the beneficial phytochemicals responsible for apples’ anticarcinogenic effects.

Scientists processed more than 200 pounds of Red Delicious apples, and extracted phytochemicals from about 24 pounds of peel. They screened the compounds for anti-cancer effects in laboratory cultures of human liver, breast, and colon cancer cells, and identified a group of compounds with potent anti-cancer properties.

Specifically, 13 triterpenoids from the peels of Red Delicious apples were identified and confirmed to be highly effective against cancer. Exactly how and why these biochemicals seek and destroy cancer cells is still unknown.

Apple consumption has previously been linked to a reduced risk of lung cancer, heart disease, and stroke.

Note: Stick with organic apples, ideally bought from local growers living near you. There should be less chance of you ingesting pesticides.

Ever Felt Faint? Just press this point

Posted by youngaga On July - 6 - 2007Comments Off

Welcome to our Blog.
We believe this article by Dr Ben Kim contains crucial information that can assist someone who has lost consciousness, or needs a mental boost.
The technique is simple and can be done by a layman.
Acupressure Point for Boosting Mental Alertness and Energy
By Dr. Ben Kim

“One of the first points that I learned about during my education in contemporary medical acupuncture was GV-26, also known as Governing Vessel 26.
GV-26 is also called Shui Gou, and is traditionally used as a first-aid revival point due to its effectiveness in restoring consciousness and mental alertness after a person has fainted or become extremely weak.
I regularly recommend GV-26 as a point that people can apply pressure to for about a minute at a time to increase mental alertness and physical energy. Pressure can be applied with the tip of a finger, or for increased effectiveness, with the tip of a fingernail.
I have found that self-application of pressure to GV-26 is particularly useful for drowsy drivers, providing an almost immediate boost of alertness that can be life-saving. GV-26 can also promote mental clarity and focus, useful for when a project is at hand and the brain feels sluggish.
GV-26 is located between your upper lip and nose, about one-third of the way down from the bottom of your nose.
Beyond promoting mental alertness, I have consistently found that application of pressure or an acupuncture needle to GV-26 can accelerate healing and restoration of range of motion after a sprain/strain of the back.
Stimulation of GV-26 by finger or needle can produce powerful effects because this point allows access to two important cranial nerves: the trigeminal and facial nerves. Both of these nerves carry signals back to the brain stem in areas that are ripe with autonomic nervous system activity.
For those with knowledge of human anatomy:
GV-26 provides access to muscular branches of the right and left buccal branches of cranial nerve VII, and superior labial branches of the infraorbital nerve, which is a branch of the middle division of cranial nerve V. GV-26 also provides access to branches of superior labial arteries and tributaries of companion veins.”
Roshmi & I hope you found the article as useful as we did – which is why we shared it with you.

Allergy Season

Posted by youngaga On July - 4 - 2007Comments Off

Don’t shed a tear over your allergies this year!

(NC)—Managing allergy symptoms is never easy, especially when you have to consider congestion, a runny nose, sneezing and the ever-present itchy, tearing and red eyes.

Treatment usually starts with over-the-counter medications which can be recommended by a pharmacist. These include antihistamines or decongestants to relieve symptoms. However, if these over-the-counter medicines are not helping you treat your allergies, it may be time to visit your doctor or allergist.

“Nasal sprays are recommended as first-line therapy when nasal congestion is the primary symptom of a patient’s allergic rhinitis and should be used on a daily basis,” says Dr. Bill Moote, a Canadian allergist.

Often neglected, however, are the tearing, red and itchy eyes that are common among allergy sufferers but usual treatments don’t always help relieve the symptoms.

In a recent study with Nasonex (mometasone furoate), which was published in Allergy and Clinical Immunology International, symptoms were evaluated over a two-week period and it was found that those who used a nasal inhaled corticosteroid spray demonstrated a 52 per cent reduction in tearing, a 46 per cent reduction in eye redness and a 33 per cent reduction in eye itching as compared to the placebo. Nasonex is currently approved to relieve congestion but not indicated for itchy, tearing, or red eyes.

In addition to relieving allergy symptoms, patients with sensitive noses can also benefit from nasal sprays that are available in scent-free and scented formulations, so ask your doctor which treatment is right for you.
