Sunburned? Designer Summer shoes?

Posted by youngaga On June - 17 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Hi,

Well, most of us were anxiously awaiting Summer

while enduring the North American and European winters.

Now that it has finally arrived, it is easy to overdo the outdoorsy bit – BBQ’s, swimming, lolling about on the beach.

Sunlight is good for you – in moderation. It stimulates your body to manufacture vitamin D.

If you do stay out longer than you should, and get burnt, here is a natural remedy:

Apply a cold wet compress to the sunburned area and

change every hour for 6 hours.

Add a little apple cider vinegar to this compress to help

ease the pain and stop the itchiness.

Or you can add colloidal oatmeal (Aveeno) to the

bathwater, or use it as a paste on the body.

Regular raw oatmeal can be blended into fine particles and used in a similar way.

The oatmeal is soothing for the skin, takes away the

itchiness, and will help with all problems - including

poison ivy, poison oak, hives and allergic reactions -

that manifest themselves on the skin.

This advice comes from Ray Collins of Goodlife, an excellent health newsletter.

Urgent Warning to Dog Owners

Posted by youngaga On June - 16 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Hello there,

I’m sure you’ll agree that that this is very
important!

Especially if you, or someone in the family,
has a dog(s).

We were sent an e-mail about a recall of
Ol’Roy canned dog food. This brand is sold
only at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club.

According to a report from West Virginia
TV station WSAZ, there’s a problem with the
inner linings of the cans separating from
the can.

A spokesperson with Simmons Pet Food
(the maker of Ol’Roy) confirmed that the recall
went out last week and dog owners should not
use the food.

WSAZ reports that the cans can be returned
for full refunds.

Please forward this to anyone you know whom
it could benefit.

Flaxseed Oil & Eyesight

Posted by youngaga On June - 15 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Hello & Welcome back!

Here’s some interesting information to help protect your eyesight.

Some eye care providers recommend flaxseed oil as a nutritional supplement for treating dry eye, caused by factors such as living in an arid climate. (Flaxseed oil, of course, must be taken orally, and never applied directly to the eye)

Flaxseed oil contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids thought to help restore the oily portion of a tear film that moistens the eye for everyone.

Some researchers say including fish oil as a supplement makes flaxseed oil even more effective. For optimal results, you should use the freshest possible sources of flaxseed oil.

Dry eye symptoms include a sensation of having grit or a foreign object in the eye. If symptoms persist, make sure you contact an eye care provider who might recommend other, more traditional remedies.

Here’s a couple of interesting vision facts.

Did you know…?

•        The American Optometric Association says about 70% of people who use computers every day will develop vision problems.

•        The Vision Council of America estimates that about 62% of U.S. residents have vision defects requiring correction.

Finally, we highly recommend that you invest in the Vision for Life program.

You can read about it at http://www.youngagainforever.com/better_vision_naturally.htm

Because it is so effective, it comes with a six month money-back guarantee. You even get the shipping refunded.

This guarantee is very rarely taken advantage of!

Enriched or Fortified Foods, Anyone?

Posted by youngaga On June - 10 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Welcome to our blog, with its healthy tips.

We read the following in a newsletter from Gail Kaufman and Monica Villarreal.

When you seek out foods in the supermarket with content labels

containing “enriched”, you are NOT getting what you thought!

You would have been much better off with the original version, before

it was processed, refined, and then “enriched”. In other words, the

nutrients are removed during the manufacturing process, and then some

synthetic versions of the same nutrients are added.

Manufacturers refine and process products like breads and cereals to

make them cheaper and last longer. To do this they have to strip them

of things like fiber and all of the nutrients that nature intended

them to have.

There are also fortified foods, in which manufacturers add nutrients

that the original food never had - like calcium. in orange juice and

milk with vitamin D.

Words like “fortified” and “enriched” sound as if foods processed in

these ways are good for you. But this is not necessarily so!

Why were “enriched” or “fortified” foods created in the first place?

Enriched foods are usually refined first, which means they have had

all of their nutrients taken away for manufacturing purposes. The

refining process also removes fiber. Fiber is one of the most

important ingredients to keep everything inside your body working

properly, and to prevent the build-up of toxins.

They are also usually loaded with sugar, hydrogenated fats and empty

calories.

They are made appealing to the eye with artificial colors and flavors,

and preservatives are added to make them last longer than their

natural shelf-life.

So try wherever possible to follow the advice of any good

nutritionist, which is:

Buy and consume what nature intended for your body - whole, natural,

unprocessed foods.

And, it is equally important to masticate your food thoroughly, before

swallowing. Chewing your food properly breaks it down so that your

body can extract the most nutrition from it.

And it helps if you have a good set of teeth!

natural way, visit

Drink Leg Cramps Away!

Posted by youngaga On June - 7 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Hello there!

Just a quick note for those of you who suffer from leg

cramps.

A subscriber to a health newsletter wrote in saying:

“As a long, long time sufferer of leg cramps, let me tell

you the best and the most simple leg cramp cure.

I have tried everything, and this is what really really

works for me.

I read about it in the book “Your Body’s Many Cries for

Water.”

My leg cramp problem is a circulation problem, and it is a

signal that I am dehydrated.

If I drink a liter of water or even two glasses of water and

wait a couple of minutes, miraculously the leg cramp goes

away.

After 40 years of suffering, it is difficult and humbling to

accept, but truth is like that. It waits for you, it doesn’t

change, it just is. ”

He asked to pass this advice on so it could help others, so

here it is!

Speaking of leg cramps, if you did Tibetan Yoga, not only

would you prevent cramps, but you would soon look and feel

much younger!

Dr Kleiner’s Top 5 Nutritional Vegetables

Posted by youngaga On June - 6 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Welcome back!

We all know how essential proper nutrition is to enable our body
to function in peak condition.

But how do we choose from Nature’s bountiful harvest of
fruit and vegetables?

Well, to make things a little easier, here are Dr Kleiner’s
top 5 picks:

• Broccoli. Indoles and sulforaphanes contained in
broccoli are top cancer-fighters. Eat broccoli raw or
lightly cooked. Or feel free to select other members of the
Brassica genus, such as kale, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts,
kohlrabi and cabbage.

• Garlic. Along with onions and leeks, garlic is a member of
the Allium genus of vegetables, known for their cancer-
fighting and immune- strengthening abilities. While the more
pungent varieties of onions and garlic are richer in health-
protective compounds, enjoy them all, including mild
elephant garlic and sweet onions. No need to chew raw
cloves, says Dr. Kleiner, who uses lightly sautéed garlic
liberally in her cooking.

• Red chard. This is a leafy green, like collard greens and
mustard greens, but less bitter and simpler to prepare. Red
chard is chock full of vitamins and minerals, including high
amounts of vitamin K, beta-carotene and potassium, plus
cancer-fighting anthocyanins and fiber. Dr. Kleiner loves
red chard stir fried with a bit of sweetened rice vinegar
and soy sauce.

• Carrots. Raw or steamed, it’s hard to beat carrots for their
appealing taste, portability and nutrition. Carrots are rich
in beta-carotene and vitamin K, plus carotenoids that
protect against cancer, heart disease and vision loss. Also
try other carotenoid-rich deep orange produce, such as sweet
potatoes, apricots or cantaloupe.

• Red peppers. These are rich in beta-carotene and vitamin K,
cardioprotective vitamin B-6 and folic acid, plus an
excellent choice for lycopene, a carotenoid that can reduce
your risk for certain cancers. Also choose from lycopene-
rich tomatoes, watermelon and pink grapefruit.

Select the freshest vegetables you can find, or buy quality
frozen vegetables since they retain nutrients longer than
veggies stored for a week at the bottom of your fridge, says
Dr. Kleiner. Although cooking vegetables involves some
degree of nutrient loss, it’s alright to sauté them lightly,
steam them or cook them briefly in water. Season vegetables
with a little salt and pepper.

Research has shown that good eyesight depends heavily on
good nutrition. However, good eyesight, like your body, also
needs to be exercised to remain keen, or to be restored,
especially as one ages.

Try the proven Vision for Life program, which carries a six
month money back guarantee – that’s because it works so
effectively! Get your free 15 part eyesight course at

Fight Off Alzheimer’s with Fun

Posted by youngaga On June - 4 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Hi there,

We read a lot about looking after our physical health, but
preserving our mental health is equally important.

We all have some knowledge about the dreaded Alzheimer’s
disease.

Well, here is some deceptively simple, but very effective
preventative steps we can take against Alzheimer’s,
according to Dr Gary Small.

Dr. Gary Small is the director of the UCLA Center on Ageing
and a professor of psychiatry at UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric
Institute in the USA.

He reviewed a great deal of scientific studies, and
conducted his own. His conclusion is that people who eat
fish once or more a week can reduce their risk of
Alzheimer’s by up to 60%.

Regular light exercise also keeps the brain alert. Try to
fit in some walking every day, you’ll look and feel sharp!

Dr Small believes that the brain acts like a muscle. To keep
it fit and healthy, you have to exercise it. An effective
technique is to do a crossword puzzle every day. But there
are plenty of other ways … learn a musical instrument,
memorize useful facts and figures, and learn complex new
card games.

But there is a really fun way to mental clarity and brain
power!

It is a fascinating, challenging and extremely enjoyable
game for the family which will build brain muscle!

Here is just one professional’s testimonial:

“Much more than a game; it’s a tool for the Mind-Body work
we value. It certainly has proven so with me - and it’s a
hit with my patients. It’s an outstanding product and since
it’s amazingly inexpensive, I encourage my patients to use
it as home practice. It’s complex and challenging enough
that no one has gotten tired of using it.”

Thomas M. Brod, MD, Sr. Fellow, BCIA, American Board,
Psychiatry & Neurology

And here is what world renowned author, Dr Deepak Chopra,
has to say:

“The Wild Divine is helping to transform our mass
consciousness to one of peace and harmony through a very
practical program that allows people to get in intimate
touch with the innermost core of their being. To know that
they have more power than they have ever realized, to know
that they can influence what is happening in their body, in
their mind, in their emotions, as well as in the world that
they create everyday.”
