FOR FLAB FIGHTING FOODIES
by Jay Chatterjee & Roshmi Raychaudhuri
All you foodies out there already know that food is much more
than mere fodder to fuel energy needs! No, I'm not alluding
to their taste-bud-tickling qualities, I am referring to the
therapeutic properties of certain foods.
You are what you eat!
Never has an adage been more true than this one, now that modern
research has confirmed the direct connection between food habits
and the fitness quotient.
Many foods are known to affect cell renewal and recharging of
body organs. Some foods contain active illness-fighting compounds,
while others boost the ability of your body systems to do the
same. Foods rich in antioxidants can help fight free radicals,
and help your body slow down the aging process.
The following fitness foods provide the necessary energy nutrients
(protein, fat and carbohydrate) as well as fiber, vitamins,
and other health-inducing ingredients.
AND they taste scrumptious enough to please the most demanding
*Whole Grain Crackers: For fiber and carbohydrate.
*Sweet Potatoes: Good carbohydrate boost plus antioxidants.
*Legumes & Soya Bean: Provide protein, carbohydrate &
*Tomatoes: Contain cancer-fighting Lycopene
*Yogurt: Great source of calcium and protein
*Oranges/Limes: Loaded with vitamin C, folic acid, and fiber
*Nuts/Seeds : Loaded with protein, & immune-system boosters
*Broccoli: Contains Sulphoraphane, an anti-cancer compound.

*Salmon/Tuna/Mackerel: For Omega-3 fatty acids, which thin the
blood and reduce cholesterol levels.

it as a potent anti-cancer food.

*Green Tea: Rich in anti-oxidants and anti-viral properties.
*Water: Is so vital that it rates a full paragraph! What's the
difference between a grape and a raisin? What's the difference
between a plum and a prune? What's the difference between a
smooth, unlined face and a craggy, wrinkled one? Yes, the answer
is "water" ! For hydration of your body and skin. Drink lots
& lots of it! Water lubricates the joints, keeps skin healthy
and looking young, prevents dehydration, and stops energy loss.
Drink at least 6 to 8 eight-ounce glasses a day. Plan on carrying
a bottle of water with you wherever you go; choose to drink
water instead of coffee or soft drinks whenever possible.
Make the change! Incorporate the above foods into your diet!
Do it for a recharged body, glowing skin and soaring vitality.
AND your immune system too will get the support it needs.
